This was on 18 September and after a good night's rest from the previous day's adventures, we signed up for the Scenic Cruise in the morning. It's a 1 hour cruise that brings you to see the sights in Freycinet Peninsula (between the Tasman Sea and Great Oyster Bay), and to "take in the area’s beauty and learn about its history in the Freycinet Cruise aboard Freycinet Lodge’s comfortable high speed catamaran, Baudin."
Enjoy the video!
When passing by the reception counter in the morning we saw this poster of Mt Amos and decided to buy one as a souvenir from our adventure the day before :)
A map of Freycinet Peninsula.
After breakfast we made our way to the jetty for the cruise.
Perfect weather and perfectly clear, blue water.
On the jetty with the Freycinet Lodge behind me.
As you can tell, cowboy here doesn't really like getting his picture taken.
Baudin - our boat! Fits about 9 people if I'm not wrong.
And off we go! There's Mount Amos. Can't believe just the day before we climbed that massive thing and were standing right at the peak of it all.
Passed by this small rock island thingy on which perched many many birds - unexpectedly, the stench was so horrible that I had to hold my nose as we were passing it.
Goodbye stinky birds!
This is Hazards Beach. Apparently aboriginal people used to stay there and they lived on seaweed, oysters and scallops.
Pink granite - apparently exported to many countries and even used in the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
Those buildings there are what makes up Saffire Freycinet - 6 star resort, only 20 exclusive suites, at least $1450 per night for the cheapest suite. (!!!)
Not many more pictures of the cruise, but here's me with our friendly skipper for the day (I think his name is Steven). He's more than a head taller than me! He was really nice and got to know everyone's names and chatted with us.
Last few pictures of us around the beautiful lodge.
Fireplace in the middle of the lounge
Big windows open up to the deck outside. Everything felt so relaxed and peaceful.
Another fireplace at the reception
And then we visited Honeymoon Bay. Apparently people have weddings here. I assume they must be really small weddings though because it's a very tiny bay!
There was this mum with 2 young daughters. She was sitting down on a towel enjoying the sun and -camwhoring- while her daughters played by the water. Her camwhoring not normal smiling shots one leh, must lean back, close eyes contentedly, smile and bask in the sun! Didn't dare take a photo of her of course. Haha.
Do I spot an emo cowboy in the distance?
Look how pretty and blue the water is!
Dipped my feet in the water - definitely too cold for a swim. Check out again how crystal clear that water is. Love it.
After taking in a last look of the beautiful scenery of Freycinet, we headed back towards Hobart, not before making a few stops along the way.
First, we paid a second visit to the Marine Farm where we had those awesome scallops and oysters.
Dee-licious!
After that, we drove to Kates Berry Farm that was recommended by Wallace's supervisor at the hospital. You don't actually get to pick berries, but what's to die for are the desserts.
Jams for tasting. All sorts of berries you could think of! Just no gooseberry. :)
Sauces, marmalade, chutney, relishes.
Hand crafted chocolates.
And of course, we ordered dessert straightaway! Here's our elderflower sparkling drink. Interesting but I didn't like it that much.
Tadah - blueberry pie! Oh gosh doesn't it look so so good?
It's making my mouth water.
And we also ordered scones. 2 huge scones with lots of fresh cream and your choice of jam. They weren't the kind that were crispy on the outside, but instead they're softer and a little denser.
Sugar overload.
I'm sorry but I couldn't help it. We were only there once so I HAD to try the ice cream as well! Strawberry and raspberry ripple I think. The ice cream is very sticky - I think it's to prevent it from melting too quickly.
And of course while you're enjoying all that you get to sit outside and enjoy the lovely view.
Continued driving back to Hobart and we came across a random beach along the road. I can't remember the name but there was no one there at all until a small family arrived just as we were leaving. Notice the whitish patches in the sand? Can you guess what they are?
Loads of washed-up seashells! It's impossible to walk on the sand quickly barefoot without being poked by a seashell every step of the way. There were so many that I kept one to bring home. It's sitting here on my table back in Singapore :)
He didn't want to get sand in his shoes. Spoilsport! Lol.
But after that, we drove back to Hobart and that was the end of our Freycinet trip. Good times.. Hope you enjoyed reading :)
